Our Mission
At projectUmbrella, our mission is to lend a helping hand to the unhoused communities of New York City, Seattle, Phoenix, and Austin. Starting from 2015 in New York City, we've been handing out care packages containing seasonal essentials, such as umbrellas for the winter and sunscreen for the summer, as of 2021, we expanded to helping the unhoused community in Seattle as well. In 2024, we furthered our reach to the Greater Phoenix Area's houseless community; as of 2025, we have expanded our mission to Austin, Texas. While handing out care packages, we do our best to go beyond giving by focusing on getting to know our unhoused community and listening to their stories. Through our mission, we hope to inspire others to appreciate how much acknowledgment and a simple conversation can mean to our unhoused community.

What have we done recently?
November 2025
This November, we were deeply grateful to spend time with new friends while sharing 225 meals, meaningful moments, and genuine connections. With the unwavering support of our extraordinary volunteers, we were reminded once again that presence and compassion are at the heart of every distribution. Their dedication continues to make this work possible and reinforces our commitment to serving with dignity and care.
October 2025
This October, the Phoenix team distributed 150 care packages and pizza from Rihana’s Pizza & Wings. With the continued support of our generous donors and dedicated volunteers, we were able to connect with incredible individuals whose stories remind us why our mission matters. The stories of resilience and openness we heard continue to guide our commitment to presence, dignity, and compassion.

This September, the Phoenix team distributed 150 care packages, resource cards, and chicken-fried rice meals. With the help of our generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and new partners, we were able to spark meaningful connections by meeting incredible individuals and hearing powerful stories that continue to guide our mission of presence, dignity, and compassion.

This August, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team distributed 140 care packages and warm pizzas purchased from our friends at Rihana's Pizza and Wings. With the help of our generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and new partners, we were able to spark many moments of beautiful connection that we hope had a positive impact.

To close out July, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team distributed 100 care packages and warm hot dog meals purchased from our partner Costco. With support from our generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers, we shared not only food but moments of connection—reminders that even the simplest acts of compassion can leave a lasting impact.

To start the new year, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team was privileged to distribute 85 care packages, pizza slices, bananas, and water bottles. With the help of our sponsors and amazing volunteers, we were able to spread kindness and connect with individuals whose resilience and stories continue to inspire us.
December 2024
This holiday season, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team was privileged to serve our houseless neighbors across the metro area. We distributed 75 seasonal care packages with warm meals and connected with inspiring individuals like Rubyn and Christy, whose resilience and determination deeply moved us. Our incredible volunteers and sponsors made this day of giving possible.
November 2024
As our first launch event since the new expansion, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team had the incredible privilege of serving our houseless neighbors. It was a very special experience, made even more meaningful with Thanksgiving just around the corner. We distributed 40 seasonal care packages, each paired with a warm Thanksgiving meal, and had the honor of connecting with extraordinary individuals whose inspiring stories deeply moved us.
