Our Mission
At projectUmbrella, our mission is to lend a helping hand to the unhoused communities of New York City, Seattle, Phoenix, and Austin. Starting from 2015 in New York City, we've been handing out care packages containing seasonal essentials, such as umbrellas for the winter and sunscreen for the summer, as of 2021, we expanded to helping the unhoused community in Seattle as well. In 2024, we furthered our reach to the Greater Phoenix Area's houseless community; as of 2025, we have expanded our mission to Austin, Texas. While handing out care packages, we do our best to go beyond giving by focusing on getting to know our unhoused community and listening to their stories. Through our mission, we hope to inspire others to appreciate how much acknowledgment and a simple conversation can mean to our unhoused community.
We believe that everyone deserves to have their story heard.

What have we done recently?
May 2025
To kick off May, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team was grateful to distribute 150 care packages, chicken fried rice, bananas, and water. With the support of our generous sponsors and new volunteers, we shared meals, stories, and moments that reminded us how meaningful simple acts of kindness can be.
March 2025
To close out March, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team was grateful to distribute 100 care packages, pizza, chips, bananas, and water. With support from our amazing sponsors and incredible volunteers, we shared conversations, smiles, and moments that reminded us of the power of compassion.
January 2025
To start the new year, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team was privileged to distribute 85 care packages, pizza slices, bananas, and water bottles. With the help of our sponsors and amazing volunteers, we were able to spread kindness and connect with individuals whose resilience and stories continue to inspire us.
December 2024
This holiday season, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team was privileged to serve our houseless neighbors across the metro area. We distributed 75 seasonal care packages with warm meals and connected with inspiring individuals like Rubyn and Christy, whose resilience and determination deeply moved us. Our incredible volunteers and sponsors made this day of giving possible.
November 2024
As our first launch event since the new expansion, the projectUmbrella Phoenix team had the incredible privilege of serving our houseless neighbors. It was a very special experience, made even more meaningful with Thanksgiving just around the corner. We distributed 40 seasonal care packages, each paired with a warm Thanksgiving meal, and had the honor of connecting with extraordinary individuals whose inspiring stories deeply moved us.
