During our Austin distribution this past Sunday, we met Cody, whose story reflects optimism, faith, and the quiet strength found in connection.

Cody is originally from San Marcos and has traveled across the country—from Minnesota and Colorado to Austin—with his favorite place being Huntington Beach, California. He shared that reading brings him peace, calling books both inspiring and entertaining, and even suggested that we include them in future care packages.

He spoke proudly about his two sons—one, a 32-year-old contractor in Austin, and the other, an 18-year-old freshman studying Pharmacology at Baylor. Although Cody has been on the streets for eight weeks, his faith and positivity remain unwavering, strengthened by the kindness of those who take the time to listen and connect.

Stories like Cody’s remind us that hope can endure even in uncertainty, and that compassion, presence, and understanding truly make a difference.
