Mario is a 62-year-old veteran from the Caribbean who has been in Seattle since 1999 and carries a story shaped by faith, resilience, and survival.
He shared that he prioritizes his health, has never used drugs, and spends much of his time reading the Bible, praying, and leaning on his faith through difficult seasons.
Mario also spoke about living with PTSD and the challenges that come with trying to find peace while navigating life on the streets.
He has slept under the Aurora Bridge, yet still finds his way to the park not only for support, but to talk, meet people, and feel connected to others.
Through his story, Mario reminded us that every person carries more than what is visible. Some carry pain quietly, some carry faith openly, and some keep showing up because connection itself can be a form of hope.
His story is a reminder that strength is not always loud. Sometimes, it looks like prayer, presence, and choosing to keep going.
