Our Mission
At projectUmbrella, our mission is to lend a helping hand to the unhoused communities of New York City, Seattle, Phoenix, and Austin. Starting from 2015 in New York City, we've been handing out care packages containing seasonal essentials, such as umbrellas for the winter and sunscreen for the summer, as of 2021, we expanded to helping the unhoused community in Seattle as well. In 2024, we furthered our reach to the Greater Phoenix Area's houseless community; as of 2025, we have expanded our mission to Austin, Texas. While handing out care packages, we do our best to go beyond giving by focusing on getting to know our unhoused community and listening to their stories. Through our mission, we hope to inspire others to appreciate how much acknowledgment and a simple conversation can mean to our unhoused community.
We believe that everyone deserves to have their story heard.

What have we done recently?
Fall 2025
At our third event since launching in Austin, the projectUmbrella team came together once again to distribute 50 care packages—each thoughtfully packed with hygiene items, snacks, and seasonal essentials—for our unhoused neighbors. Every conversation reminded us that the true measure of impact isn’t in quantity, but in the compassion shared, the dignity preserved, and the human connections made along the way.
Summer 2025
At our second event since launching in Austin, the projectUmbrella team had the privilege of distributing 40 care packages—each filled with hygiene items and seasonal essentials—to our unhoused neighbors. Every interaction reminded us that impact isn’t measured by numbers alone, but by the stories shared, the dignity upheld, and the moments of connection along the way.
Spring 2025
At our first launch event since the newest expansion, the projectUmbrella Austin team had the incredible privilege of serving our houseless neighbors. It was a very meaningful experience as we took our first steps in a new city. We distributed 25 seasonal care packages, each paired with hygiene essentials and seasonal essentials, and had the honor of connecting with extraordinary individuals whose inspiring stories deeply moved us.
